Mediation

An alternative dispute resolution method

The goal of Hughes Mediation and Consultation is to provide cost-effective and time-efficient mediation of your personal injury claim by a well-seasoned personal injury trial lawyer and mediator.

Why Choose Hughes Mediation and Consultation?

EXPERIENCE

I have been a trial lawyer practicing in Metropolitan Atlanta for over 41 years. I started with a small firm in Decatur that represented several of the largest property and casualty insurers in Georgia. I did insurance work primarily and Plaintiffs’ injury work when it didn’t conflict. After 15 years or so I switched to representing Plaintiffs only in personal injury cases. During the course of my career, I have tried to a verdict well over 200 tort cases. I have had multiple verdicts and settlements of seven figures and a couple of eight-figure cases, involving such injuries as quadriplegia, paraplegia, traumatic brain injury, and wrongful death. I have resolved more soft tissue cases than I can remember.

I was certified as a Mediator by the State of Georgia in April 2017. My litigation experience has taught me what both sides of the v. are looking for in the resolution of a personal injury claim. My understanding of the subtleties of personal injury litigation and how to help resolve such issues as unpaid medical bills, liens, subrogation, et., enables the parties to avoid the stumbling blocks which may prevent a reasonable settlement of the case.

Hughes Mediation and Consultation
is Cost-Effective and Time Efficient

We provide both in-person and virtual mediations.

Live Mediations:

Your time is valuable. Your client’s time is valuable. If you are paying the mediator, shouldn’t the mediator come to you?

I prefer in-person mediations because they achieve better results. When an in-person mediation is scheduled I will come to your office. I charge $200.00 per hour, per party, for a minimum of 2 hours. Additionally, each party will pay a $50.00 charge to cover my travel time and expenses for mediations inside the perimeter. Mediations outside the perimeter will require payment of an additional sum, to be agreed upon, to cover said travel time and expenses. I do not charge for pre-mediation review of up to two pages of information provided to me by any party relative to their position in the case.

Virtual Mediations:

We will conduct a virtual mediation using Zoom if that is the parties’ preference. When a virtual mediation is scheduled there is no charge for travel time or travel related expenses.
